Sustainability at The Lost Spring
A sanctuary created by nature - protected by us
Our Commitment to the Tiake Promise
At The Lost Spring, we honour the Tiaki Promise, a gentle vow to care for Aotearoa and all the beauty she holds. “Tiaki” means to protect, to nurture, to look after. It is the quiet understanding that we are guests of this land, and guardians of its future.
Here in our geothermal sanctuary, embraced by native bush and ancient waters, we carry this promise with intention.
We tread lightly.
We respect the stories of this place.
We protect the whenua, the wai, and the living world that surrounds us.
Every guest who steps through our gates becomes part of this promise too — caring for nature, honouring the land, and ensuring its magic can be felt for generations to come.
Together, we keep Tiaki.
Together, we protect the wonder of this place.
How We Care For Our Environment
From urban ground to native sanctuary - creating space for nature to return.
At The Lost Spring, sustainability begins with deep respect for our geothermal water source - the heart of this place and a taonga we are privileged to care for.
One of our most meaningful contributions has been the re-greening of what was once an urban camping ground, dominated by willow trees, into a thriving landscape of predominantly native planting. Over time, this transformation has created vital habitat for local birdlife and lizards, allowing nature to return and flourish.
In an environment surrounded by housing, this restoration is especially important to us. It is our way of nurturing biodiversity, softening the urban edge, and creating a sanctuary where both people and wildlife can coexist in harmony.
